Stronger

Hello friends! I woke up this morning and, for the first time, didn't really have the desire to go to my personal training session. One time in 3 1/2 months is not bad! I went, of course. Tonya commented on my progress. Well yay! I told her that I had definitely noticed that my legs were getting MUCH stronger. And, I'll have you know, I believe I have strengthened my hip flexors. You see, I saw on page 46 of the latest Runner's World magazine a "popping hip syndrome" article. My right hip (both, really, but mostly the right one) used to pop all the time. Apparently a cause is weak hip flexors. I told Tonya about this and she said "Well of course! All of those leg lifts we've been doing have done the trick." She also commented that by only running (i.e. no strength training) I had gotten myself out of balance, meaning my hamstrings were much stronger than my quads. I can definitely say that I have strengthened my quads, as well as stretched and strengthened my hamstrings. Legs of steel, I say! Ha. My body may not have transformed itself into that of a Kenyan in the past 3 1/2 months, but it is definitely stronger. And that's a good thing.

Hills! Hills, I say... that's a Quad strengthener. Love the Hills. Eat them for breakfast!

I took two months off from the weight lifting leading up to my recent half marathon - and I think the time off did more harm than good - as you said "I had gotten myself out of balance"

Great job doing that workout when it would have been easier to stay in bed!

Susan, sounds like you are getting into great shape. I know when I lift weights and run, I feel better as long as I don't over kill on the squats. I'm thinking of including 2 core workouts in my marathon training. Balance is good, I agree.

Awesome Susan. I have always loved weight training. Way to show up even though you didn't feel like it. You're a winner my friend.

Good for you for getting there! Hmm..I've not worked out my legs in eons. But, then there's always this morning. Thanks for reminding me to do that. After my shoulder surgery, I seemed to have forgotten to do any strength training for my lower half, snce I only do ROM (range of motion) exercises for my upper half right now.

How are you fairing with all of the rain in your part of the country? Things look pretty bad on the news...
