Thirty Four, Teddy Tready, Turkey Trot

On Tuesday (11/25) I turned 34 years old. On Monday evening Chasen surprised me with an early present. Meet Teddy Tready:

"Teddy Tready" is a Horizon Club T500 treadmill. He and I are about to become the best of friends!

Can you believe that I, Miss Dreadmill Hater, requested a treadmill? Actually, I requested a used treadmill, to be specific. It has just become apparent to me that my life... it is 'a changin'!!! The more pregnant I get, the more my "need for safety" increases. So being able to run/walk right in my own garage sounds very, very appealing. Darkness will not stand in my way, nor traffic, nor lack of a restroom (there is one about 20 steps away). Good deal! AND... once Isaac is born, this will be oooooh sooooooo convenient! Here's hoping!

Back to the story, though. I asked for a used (read: cheap) treadmill, thinking it would be my "lifeline" for about 6 months. So, take the cost of a gym membership, multiply that by six, and don't spend more! If it dies after that, life goes on. Well... Chasen didn't have any luck in the used market, but he serendipitously found this floor model at a new sporting goods store in Memphis. While it was on the high end of my proposed "used" budget, hey... it's brand new! So I am very, very happy with it. Welcome to the fam, Teddy!

I got to spend the first part of my birthday fasting (yuck) so that I could commence to drinking an extremely sweet glucose-testing liquid. Ick. But I made it to the obstetrician's office without incident and they took my blood and I immediately ate the banana I was toting in my purse. Aaah! Isaac measures right where he should, and I shall go back in three more weeks (right at 30 weeks) and then go back every two weeks from here on out (until the frequency increases again). I'll get my glucose results this week. My celebratory birthday dinner was a hamburger and fries. Wild woman, I know!

I gave my sore feet five complete days of rest. I have come to the realization that I am just going to have to be assessed for new shoes. Alas, today is Thanksgiving (gobble, gobble!) and a Turkey Trot was in order. I have to commend Chasen; he is the holiday chef. He cooked for four hours before we ate a superb meal. FOUR HOURS! We had the four basic food groups: turkey, dressing, green bean casserole and candied sweet potatoes. Don't forget pie! Yum. Now you see why I HAD to do a Turkey Trot...

After a 2-hour tryptophan-induced nap, I broke in ole Teddy Tready. It was dark outside yet I was happily getting after it in the garage. I walked the majority of a 5K, and I even RAN the last little bit. Teddy's gentle surface made that tons easier. It was even at a 12:00 mile! See - Teddy is my new best friend.

We wrapped up our quiet holiday by going to see "Four Christmases" this evening. It is a good date movie. Quite funny! I hope everyone enjoys the next few days.

Enjoy your new treadmill! They are actually not that bad if you can get a little diversion like an Ipod or TV while you do it.

I feel like you, I hated treadmills but with weather and dark conditions they can be the best ally... ENJOY!!!!
