Total Miles Trained For Elijah: 59
One words sums up today's speedwork: FABULOUS! Is that a change of pace, or what? (pardon the pun)
Last night I decided to try something new: pre-dawn running. With not enough sleep, I woke at 4:30 AM. Yep - 4:30. Normally I do not get up until at least 5:00. My goal today was to beat the heat at all costs. The high will be in the mid-to-upper 90's today... so drastic measures had to be taken.
I got to the track, got 'set up' (which means walking while my Garmin finds signal, setting down my water bottle, keys and phone at the edge of the track) and I pressed "start" at 4:54 AM. It was almost cool out there. I called time and weather and it was 75 degrees. Ready for a coat! Ha.
I did a 13:17 warmup mile. Then I started a rotation of 400m at pace, 400m recovery. I was to do the 400m paces at 2:16-2:20. Well here there all are: 2:15, 2:12, 2:08, 2:16, 2:12, 2:11, 2:05, 2:06. Wow! No struggle! The recoveries were also fairly consistent. So I am on cloud nine!
Two other runners showed up as I was about to leave. I pulled away from the track at 6:09 AM. What an early start to the day - an EXCELLENT start.
