Running vs. Cycling

Two nights ago I had a dream that I was running. And I was so happy! I distinctly remember that part of the dream. I had a mile in and then I remembered that I'm not supposed to be running right now. So I stopped. Bummer! I told Coach Terry about it and he said I should try to dream that I was completing a 4 hour marathon. That would definitely be a dream!

Tonya the Trainer is impressed with my switch to cycling (which, mind you, I have only done once). she heavily encouraged me to keep up my cardio any way possible while I am not running. Smart lady.

Today I got up with the intention to go for a ride. Once I realized that it was 22 degrees outside, I "put the brakes" on that plan (pun intended!) and just checked my e-mail instead. Remembering how I suffered while riding in 40 degree weather helped make that decision. It was at that time that I realized that 22 degrees would NOT have deterred me from running. So there's the big difference: cycling = wind = ouch!

The very wise Coach Terry suggested that I get a bike trainer. And he informed me of one on sale. So that's just what I did. I will NOT let the weather get in the way of my future cycling plans! Arland was right; cycling is a bit more costly than running. Oh well - whatever makes ya happy (and keeps ya sane), right?!?

When I was doing some biking during my bout with ITBS late last summer - I really apreciated that breeze you get while biking - the heat felt much less oppressive than when running. Sorry you are dealing with the negative side of that in the winter.

I got to the point in your post where you mentioned that it was 22 degrees and I thought, "That girl needs a trainer"!

Seems the amazing Terry had the same thought. You are so going to be a cyclist before you know it!

Yes, a trainer is very useful. Now when the weather is too cold or it's too dark outside to ride, you can pedal indoors safe and sound. You can also even watch TV with Chasen while on the trainer so more time with family :-)

Enjoy the trainer! Its more fun than a treadmill but sort of the same. Do intervals with it to make it more fun and use the different positions on your bars. Will probably do you good to get used to the layed down position. I have tri bars on mine now and it has taken me a while to get used to them. You will love biking when it gets too hot to run. We were doing hill repeats last year when it was 100 degrees and it was still fun. Another advantage of the trainer is you can listen you an ipod which you don't want to do if your on the streets.

when i was injured during xc one year, i did pool running. you strap this floatie thing to your waist and just run! it's kinda fun, and you get super tired.

I don't get this. "It was at that time that I realized that 22 degrees would NOT have deterred me from running." Could you please enlighten me on this? I keep following all your posts hope you can regularly post more. I get very useful information here. Thanks for having this.
