Keepin' On Keepin' On!

To the left of this bridge is GOD'S COUNTRY, aka Arkansas.

On Friday (after my first run in 123 days) Chasen and I went to the Memphis In May Barbecue Cookoff with his new coworkers. I took the above photo as we walked among thousands on the riverbanks of the Mississippi River. Then we spent Saturday and part of Sunday back home in Arkansas. It's funny; I don't feel like I belong here in Collierville, TN, yet I now do not feel like I belong in Benton, AR. What I want is to get settled in Olive Branch, MS!

Upon returning we went for a walk/run. I brought back my Garmin with me. I am back in the game, you know! Ha. My strategy was to walk 3/4 of a mile and then run the remaining 1/4. I thought I'd do that twice. I ended up doing it three times. Then I added an extra .1 mile walk at the end to make it a 5K. My total time was 48:00.

So -- I have exciting news! I am going to participate in a race very, very soon! I am going to 3/4 and 1/4 my way through the Zoom Through The Zoo 4 Mile Race this Thursday at the Memphis Zoo. My goal is one hour. I think I can meet it. It'll be the slowest race in history (my history, that is) but my first 4 mile race (I smell a PR!) and certainly the most exciting race of 2008.

My "training plan" from now on is to run/walk every other day. I have intended for this to be my training plan for ages. No time like the present!

Susan, I'm so excited for you! That run through the zoo sounds like fun, perhaps better enjoyed while going slower so you can see more animals. Best of luck!

I'm so glad you were able to run, and the race sounds like loads of fun! The walking time will give you time to enjoy all the animals!! Good luck and just remember you're only a bridge away from home!

Wow! Running again!

I guess that I expected more emotion in the commentary, but, you know? Sometimes words escape describing just how we feel!

Other times, though, you just RUN on and on and on!

Good to have you back, my friend! Take care and take it easy!

Good luck on the race but take it slow and easy! I am going to be in Memphis on business Wednesday and Thursday. If I wasn't already "over racing" I'd probably stay and do that Zoo run. Sounds like something different.

run/walk through the zoo... you'll be able to enjoy the animals during the race. I wish our zoo would do something like that but the route would be horrible!

4 miles is such a nice reasonable length... I need to look at a zoo race. They just sound like fun. Wonder what the giraffes will think.
