Dual Dump Runner

After my excellent news of licensure on Wednesday, and several days off, I was determined to try to get out for some miles on Thursday. The weather was great (less than 60 degrees!) so I decided to wear my new Cooper Young 4 Mile Race shirt:

Here I am pre-run. I still have a little wiggle room in the size L shirt, thankfully.

The previous Saturday, Chasen informed me that the local dump was quite close to our house. We drove the "course," and it was 2.5 miles away. That is a far cry from the 12 miles of the dump back home. This was a no-brainer: I was going to become a dual-city dump runner!

After the abdominal muscle soreness of last week and earlier this week, my strategy for each day of running/walking is to a) evaluate the situation on a case-by-case basis, and b) try my best to get those stretching muscles used to putting one foot in front of the other. Otherwise, I might as well just give up for the next 22.5 weeks! I can't do that (unless I am forced to do so by the obstetrician).

So off I went to the dump. This required me to get on the "real roads" for the first time in ages. No biggie; these DeSoto County drivers are pretty considerate after all. I was going to go as far as I could (must be considerate of the stretching belly); hopefully I'd at least make it to the dump; I could always "call for rescue" to get back home.

Only a half mile to go!

I made it!

Poor quality camera phone photo -- but at least I have proof of this momentous occasion. Ha!

So I did indeed make it to the dump. I was pleasantly surprised at how good I was feeling. I was "walking strong." I ate 2 strawberry newtons and started the journey home.

I made it home in the cool, breezy weather in a total of 1:23:09, all 5 miles walked. Do you think this means I get two DRC shirts? Ha!

Congrats on the licensure!!! I would absolutely love to run with you and Annette Sunday. Hopefully I'll see her tomorrow to get the exact time and place. In case I don't see her, leave me a msg on my blog with the exact time and place please. I am so excited about getting to meet you in real life!!

Long sleeves?!? Wow, the weather must be nice there. Funny that you run to the dump. I avoid it :-)

I just learned about the dump runners club. The county dump is about 2 miles from here.

Maybe I should join the club...

Congrats on putting one foot in front of the other. You're going to breeze through labor!

I did my dump run recently too.
Mine was a little unique since I had to do mine on a bike and run. It was too far for me to just run. At least at that stage in my running career. Now, a month later, I have increased my mileage to almost that distance for a single run.

Closest to me is a Transfer Station. Basically a large cemented pit that trucks dump garbage into, then it is scooped up and loaded into larger trucks, and then it is taken to the actual dump. 6 miles from my house! Makes for an accurate (if somewhat smelly) 12 mile run!

Congratulations on the license! Yay!
