Running and Reading

Yesterday I had to actually run three miles. Eeek! The temp plummeted to only 90 degrees, as it appeared we were about to get some rain (we did not). The first mile went pretty smoothly. Then I walked the quickest one minute of my life. Back to running! The second mile went smoother than I anticipated. After another lightning-fast minute I was back at it to finish up the third mile. It seemed to take forever, and I sooooo wanted to walk. But I didn't let myself. I couldn't let down Team Point Two! I just kept focusing on the fact that today is a rest day. Hooray!

I have been reading to Isaac. What have I been reading to him, you ask? Runner's World, Women's Running and the Memphis Runners Track Club newsletter ("The Roadrunner"). He is captivated, I tell you! He just hangs on every word; I love it!

In other news, this is my 29th day with water as my only liquid. Yep - no more Diet Coke, Coke Zero, etc. Just water. OK, I've had one glass of wine and one martini... but those were special occasions. My point in doing this is to stay as hydrated as possible. I noticed shortly after Isaac was born that I was drinking a lot of the aforementioned soft drinks and less water than ever. This is a good way to attempt to get enough water, plus I am sure my body will thank me for it. Additionally, I no longer crave sweets! And FYI, I have never been a coffee drinker. Bring on the hydration!

Tomorrow I have to do another 3-mile run. Please send me some good vibes!

Good job Susan! Good vibes coming your way from central Arkansas for your next 3 miler :-).

Great idea on the water. I'm no longer much of a soda drinker, maybe 1 every 2-3 weeks but need my morning coffee at least if we want me to be a safe and sane truck driver, lol!

WooHoo on your 3 miles! Great job!

Good job on the water too! I don't drink a lot of soda (although I did have one today)I'm a water and coffee girl myself.

I'll be virtually running with you tomorrow - IF I get to bed soon!

Have a great run!

I've already slowed down on my carbonated beverages because of you!

Good luck on your new 3 miles - you're doing great.

And great job on the water - well done. I bet you're feeling miles better for it?

Great job, Susan--ugh, it's tough to push in the heat. My last set of intervals felt like a death march! I cut out soda when I joined WW, and now drink only lo-cal cranberry juice w/h20. It's done wonders for my heart, not to mention my kidneys.

I think we'll be racing on back to back weekends--my 26.2 will either be Palm Beach (12/6) or Jacksonville (12/20).

Keep up the good work, Susan--and the good reading to Isaac! :)

Wow! I'm impressed that you managed to run 3 miles in that heat! And also congrats on the 29 days of water ^_^ I too have been trying to replace most of my liquids with water, I only drink Diet Coke on special occasions (like dinner out with friends), and the occasional glass of "Fat Free" milk.

You're a total inspiration ^_^

Good vibes coming to you from Hawaii :-)

I didn't know you'd given up sodas. I probably should too in order to benefit more from the caffeine boost when drinking flat coke on an iron tri race course. Keep up the good work!

Your story of reading to Isaac immediately made me think of "Three Men and a Baby" when Tom Selleck was reading sports illustrated to the kid.

Congrats on the water conversion. I'm sure you'll be happier because of it.

Good hydration plan. I've found that the carbonation in soda also effects my breathing and may give me a side "stitch" sometimes. If you really want to hydrate try drinking Gatorade, but mix it yourself, a good bit more watered down than the normal product. This will allow you to intake more "water."

Maybe Isaac is going to become a runner!
