LRM TR #39, In Spite of Exhaustion

LRM Miles Trained To Date: 250

Sometimes in life you've just gotta do what ya gotta do. That was the case this morning. After yet another night of interrupted sleep, I got up extra early to do my 5 mile run. I knew going through my day tired would be much better if I began it with a run. So I did. It was 32 degrees and I was bundled up to do my "new" loop. I started out crabby, due to being so tired and just plain "put out." But I got less so as the miles went on.

Mile 1: 12:21
Mile 2: 13:03 (shoestring malfunction - twice)
Mile 3: 12:12
Mile 4: 11:39
Mile 5: 11:27
Total: 1:00:44
Average: 12:09 per mile

Today was supposed to be tempo... but I was just too tired. Maybe I'll be more peppy tomorrow!

Susan, through reading your blog I have decided to try some alternate fueling possibilities.

Let me explain my philosophy toward running. Some of us are Zen runners - Out for the fun and health of a good run. Other runners are Einstein runners - They record the basic stats to the minute stats, they can cover everything.

I am definitely an Einstein runner. I record the date, how far, the time it took, average times and runs over weeks and months. Totally trivial to others but important to me and the way in which I approach my objectives.

I tend to run in the mornings before breakfast. I feel better and run better without a breakfast or other nourishment. Even when I cross train with the mountain bike, I don't do goo or other (unless it is a long ride).

Through reading your blog, I have decided to investigate even further. I tend to incorporate a carbohydrate into my supper where I haven't really thought about it before. For instance, I was going to make some roast chicken with a hearty chicken tortilla soup and a salad for my supper. I added rice with some veggies for the carbohydrate factor.

It seems that when I load (a little) then the treadmill (every morning between 9 and 10 AM) is easier to take.

What you think?

Good job on that 5 mile run. Looks like you did a pretty good pace there! Were you glad you ran?

Usually on those tired mornings it takes me a couple miles to begin to feel ok, but sometimes you just never quite get it going.

Still you went! Way to go!
