LRM TR #54B, Motivation

LRM Miles Trained To Date: 374

Days Until First Marathon: 21

My husband sprung it on me this morning that he'd need to go into work again today. That meant, basically, that I could do my run any time throughout the day. Since he wouldn't be here, I wouldn't need to worry about getting it out of the way so as to be able to spend time with him. So, we decided to go to brunch at IHOP. I could run in the afternoon when my food settled.

As we were waiting for a table, we were surrounded by many people. Some would come in and see the group and then turn and leave whilst mumbling obscenities. Some would come in, register their name, and step outside and smoke (which we could smell). Some would come in, register their name, and sit right down (immediately after smoking). This made me recognize that the main circle of people in my life are all non-smokers, and I am very thankful for them - and the fact they they do not smell like the folks that came in. Some of these people were rather large and could hardly move forward (and by rather large I mean morbidly obese). That made me feel sorry for them; not only do they have a life-shortening habit, but they also must not be able to get out and see and do everything that I can. That alone is motivation for me. I sat right there in the IHOP waiting area and resolved to continue to try to do everything possible to NOT become like those unfortunate ones. I am thankful to not have a scowlful face (not usually, anyway).

So, after some reality TV and the settling of the food, I went out for my 6-mile run. I went on my "country highway" path, 3 miles out and 3 miles back. I went a bit fast, but it was a beautiful day and, as I said, I was thankful to be "able."

Mile 1: 11:09
Mile 2: 11:13
Mile 3: 11:38
Mile 4: 11:44
Mile 5: 11:42
Mile 6: 12:11
Total: 1:09:40
Average: 11:37 per mile, 166 beats per minute

Sounds like a great run! It is great that we have the gift of running! That we can and do run. It makes you wonder how folks can even let themselves go like that.

Just 21 days....3 weeks. That is so cool!

Mmmmmm. A Good Meal, Reality TV and a Good Run. Sounds like it could be the best Sunday ever!

I agree with Chris that it is a gift that we can and do run!

Every time we go to Disney World I am reminded of what an out-of-shape nation we are. I think we are all ambassadors for healthy living, making a difference and running the miles!

What a great run for you! I just saw that the countdown is 22 days! Woah... it's getting close to the Taper (Madness) which even though you are (willing and) able to go out and run, you're going to have to refrain so that you are Ready for race day.

I think that we (Tn and Ar) share the obese mentality, although I heard today that TN has the best anti-obese programs for kids, but I think... "why should we have to have then in the first place"

Keep running! You are doing awesome
