RFE TR #14

Total Miles Trained For Elijah: 88

After another busy evening, I got to bed a little late. Yet, I was up-and-at-'em at about 4:36 AM. I tinkered around a bit (getting ready and nothing else - so why is that tinkering?) and made it to the track right at 5 AM. Gosh I love the track!

Today was a "Susan's Choice" run of 5 miles, per Coach Terry. So I chose to do 400m repeats. They were to be 2:16-2:20. I did them in 2:18, 2:10, 2:07, 2:10, 2:09, 4:10 (the Garmin messed up, somehow, no kidding!), 2:18 and 2:21. It was strange; on the odd lap I was well past the spot where the Garmin should have beeped at me to slow down, so I looked down at it and it was waaaay off on distance. Hmm! Very strange. This is the first time in over a year with "G" that I have disputed the accuracy. Oh well - those are pretty good stats.

I love this particular workout because it is exciting. At any given time (after the warmup, of course) I am either running at pace or recovering. And I can always go fast for a piddly quarter mile, especially knowing that in less than a quarter mile I can slow down. No problem!

Good choice and great workout! Plus you aren't up at speed for very long in the heat, much safer.

Not running Friday may be a good extra rest day for you, since you had that sluggish day after your last long run. Just remember to drink plenty of water!

Why are you using a garmin on the track?

nice work!! i'd use a garmin on the track if i had one...sometimes it's hard to see those pesky lines, plus, you have to COUNT. two things i suck at.

I know track work is in my future...once the global warming thing gets taken care of!

At least you know that all of are facing the same challenges. A friend from out of town told me that he coul;dn't do any running competitions due to the fact that it takes so much time.

I agreed with him, then told him that it is all in what you want to get out of life.

Running has done wonders for me! It is worth the dedication that it takes.

Have I told you that it is only 2 days until my next half-marathon?

Wow, I admire you for getting up so early! I've done it a couple of times but it doesn't seem like it agrees with me. I think for this month while it's still sweltering I'll stick to the treadmill and use their pace info since I don't have a garmin...

Hmm... maybe I should get one...

Good workout in the heat and great discipline getting out there and doing it on your own. You are awesome!!!

PS - GPS units are not usually very accurate on a track because of the constant turning (unless they have a very high rate of sampling, they'll use dead reckoning to approximate your distance which is based on you going in a straight line). So when running on a track, you're better off just using your Garmin to track time, not distance. You really don't need it for the latter anyway, right?
