RFE TR #48

Total Miles Trained For Elijah: 397.6

After two good days of rest after my longrun, I got up today to run 7 miles at 11:20-11:40 per mile. As my alarm went off at 4:30, I was reminded of what I told a friend yesterday who inquired about my readiness for the marathon: I am just tired of getting up at 4:30 AM. Ha! I hit snooze only once.

As I walked to my starting point down the hill, my ankle was screaming. Ick. I pondered the merits of going back home, but then decided against it. I'd do the old "jog test" in the parking lot. True to form, it perked up and I had no pain while running. Strange! I guess it needed to get the blood pumping.

I ran west because it is flatter, yet out to "the middle of nowhere." Peaceful, serene. At mile 1.5 I decided that it was just too foggy and dark (even though I was wearing my handy head lamp) and I ran back towards hilly civilization. I got to my starting point at mile 3 and forged ahead. At this point I decided to cut down to 5 miles so that I could, for once for a pre-work run, ice my problem areas. That's right, plural. Now my Sesamoid region on my left foot is having pains (and thanks to Shirley, I know exactly what to do). With only 16 days until the marathon, I have to do everything right! Both feet are being iced as I type this.

I don't know how I manage to do it... but often when I have to be "speedy," I dread it and then I do pretty well! Here are my splits.
Mile 1: 11:31
Mile 2: 11:03
Mile 3: 11:12
Mile 4: 11:24
Mile 5: 10:49
Total: 56:02
Average: 11:13

Last night I visited with Elijah's mom and dad at the hospital. Elijah is in "isolation," so he can not currently have visitors. I went to deliver a lot of donated books to the Parent Room of his floor and ended up staying for about an hour visiting. That little guy is going through a rough time, albeit expected. Let's all continue to pray for a speedy recovery for our friend. www.prayforelijah.com

Now I have an announcement! As everyone knows, longruns have not been going super well for me... and I'm supposed to do 12 miles this weekend... so I signed up for a half-marathon! What's an extra 1.1? I am going to totally use it as a training run and I CAN NOT WAIT! I have Annette to thank for this. She planted the seed, somewhat (just by me knowing that she was going to do the same race, that's all). And she arranged for me to bunk with some other Cabot Cruiser girls. It is on Sunday. It's the Tulsa World Route 66 Half Marathon. This will give Chasen the chance to do some birthday shopping for me alone. Ha! This race/training run is a present-to-self. Hooray!

Hey Susan, thats a great time on this mornings run!! Glad to see you will be running the half in Tulsa. There will be LOTS of support there. We must have 10-15 Cabot Cruisers going. Only about 4 of us will be doing the full. See you there!

What a great idea! The race along with the crowd support will help you go the distance. And taking it as a training run is great!

Have fun with the race and let it inspire you for St. Judes!

Yes, great idea! I'm sure running with others on a protected course and with aid stations, will perk up your spirits and give you added confidence going into the big day. You can also do some final checks on what to wear and eat. Have fun!!!
