LRM TR #27, Faster and Faster

LRM Miles Trained To Date: 157

This is embarrassing, but I'll spill it. It was 62 degrees this morning, so even though my legs were a bit tight, I thought it would do me good to run and loosen them up. Off I went. Now for the background info, which will start the embarrassment.

While doing a longrun in training for the WWH, the urge to, shall we say, make a "heavy deposit" in the "porcelain bank" hit me. And it hit me hard. I can go forever while needing to make a "liquid deposit," but not so with the heavy... so I had to scramble to find a gas station. Enough said!

Why am I telling you this? Because this is an honest account of my training!

So now, before every longrun, I try to wait around and see if that will happen before I begin. That's right, before every longrun. Four miles on a Monday does not qualify...

So I began running today. I was going to go slow and easy, since my legs were tight/sore, as I said. I think it was within mile two that I realized that I desperately needed to make a "heavy deposit." OH NO!!!!! I was out in the middle of nowhere, in the dark, and it was foggy/misty. I couldn't even see the cows. I was in pain and actually contemplated finding a bush... but I did not. I just knew I'd get caught - somwhow. That would be extreme embarrassment! I decided that I must make it to the next gas station (at mile 3.4 - almost home). And I did. Relief!

I was running, unknown to me, each mile faster than the next. So enough with the red-face-inducing story - on to the times!

Mile 1: 12:31
Mile 2: 11:49
Mile 3: 11:25
Mile 4: 11:09
Total: 46:58
Average: 11:44 per mile

Hopefully the speedwork on Wednesday will be a breeze compared today's experience! Now someone please e-mail me an embarrassing story...

It's one of those "running" things that you have to experience for yourself. Welcome to 'Heavy Club' almost...

I have a couple of stories where "The Heavy" never made it to a "Gas Station"

this just confirms your love of running...

I generally don't have THAT problem. I have lost 65 pounds over the last year. Most of the way that I was able to do that fits into my 'Scheduled' philosophy of life. If I can't schedule it, I generally don't do it. With weight loss, it was counting calories and regular meals at regular times. With running, it is scheduled at a regular time every day. Nothing screws with that generally. I, too, started out really liking to run after I discovered podcasts. And Ron's 'A Dieter's Life' was my first, as well...
I had a meeting last weekend and had to run at an unorthodox time. I hated it. I couldn't find extra energy, the food I had eaten just laid in my tummy, and I just felt drained...
Anyway... Let us know when the interview will be up!

Well, I can't say I have ever had that issue, or anything very embarrasing in my marathon training, although I have heard of others having such stories. I was listening to a podcast where one guy was looking for a bush, ended up in a small pond just as some ladies happened by. It was hilarious to listen to, although I am sure it was not funny to him at the time. Or even folks participating in marathons....I understand that in some cases there is little shame. So take heart, it sounds like you have company.
